About Connecting the Dots Initiative (CDI)
The Connecting the Dots Initiative (CDI) is an initiative launched by the Africa Pharma Platform (APP) as an immediate response to the Covid-19 pandemic. The CDI is a robust technology platform that aggregates the demand and supply of the much-needed products required to combat the COVID-19 pandemic.
What You Need to Know
This platform is designed to ease the procurement challenges encountered by governments and NGOs seeking African and international manufacturers that produce the essential medical products needed to respond to the COVID-19 pandemic. The CDI serves as a unique interface which will enable procuring organisations to easily identify available suppliers in Africa and beyond and place their orders, taking advantage of the economies of scale that underpins the platform.
The supply chain for medical supplies required to treat and manage the pandemic has been disrupted due to global supply chain challenges and travel restrictions. This has severely impacted the ability of African governments, Institutions and NGOs who are responsible for buying and distributing COVID-19 essential products.
The CDI through its underpinning algorithm streamlines the procurement processes and delivers medical products, life-saving clinical management products, personal protective equipment (PPE), diagnostic test kits, as well day-to-day items needed across Africa in a user-friendly format.
The CDI platform is in partnership with manufacturers across Africa as we support local manufacturers to repurpose their production lines to produce essential products. The platform is in constant engagement of production capabilities of both local and foreign suppliers with the view of improving the supply pool and meeting demand for COVID-19 products at optimised cost.
This platform recommends standards to off takers, finalize sales, finance and advise local manufacturers and smoothen the logistic process for each procurement. In essence, the CDI ensures there is a seamless procurement process to access essential COVID-19 products.
